365 Project: Day 121

My sister and I drove down to our parents' house this weekend to spend Mother's Day with our mother and grandmother. It was so nice outside and my car was filthy so I decided to wash it the old fashioned way. No motorized brushes. No high pressure sprayer. Just me, bucket of soapy water, and the hose. Just being outside in the hot sun, wet driveway under my bare feet, radio playing classic rock in the garage...it started to feel like summer. 

365 Project: Day 31

My sister and I drove to my parents' house this weekend to surprise my dad on his 50th birthday. We spent most of Saturday driving around town running errands and hanging out with the family. We had just arrived back at our house when I realized I hadn't taken my 365 picture yet! Panic had begun to set in when I looked out the back door and saw this gorgeous sunset.

My parents live outside of town on several acres of land. This is always my favorite part of being at their house. I have lived all over this country and there is nothing more amazing than a New Mexico sunset. The unobstructed view of the sky from my parent's land is just amazing. Its never the same sky twice. Every single evening I am in awe of the beauty that is possible in this world if you just open your eyes and look.

Up, up and away!

Even though I have lived in New Mexico for about 15 years off and on, this was the first time that I went to the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque. I was so excited to go! I got up at 4am to watch all of the balloons lift off at dawn. Little did I know that I would be stuck in traffic for 3 hours and have to watch the whole thing from my car! But it was still an amazing site to see and I took a lot of great photographs.

'Twas the Night Before Christmas...

...and I was blogging. Ha!  I hope you are all having a Merry Christmas Eve.  I made Christmas dinner, complete with turkey, stuffing...the works. It was quite delicious if I do say so myself! So good that I have been parked on the couch in a food coma for the past few hours.

However, I still managed to add a new print to my Etsy shop.  

California Dreamin'

This image makes me feel like I'm laying on the beach, soaking up the sun circa 1970. Of course, its December and this is just wishful thinking.  But just looking at this picture, I can feel the warmth of the sun on my face.

I also went to an exhibit about the life of Frida Kahlo this afternoon.  There were many portraits of Frida from throughout her life.  She was friends with and photographed by so many famous photographers: Edward Weston and Imogen Cunningham just to name a couple. In every photo she looks so intense, focused and serious.  This one is, by far, my favorite. The colors are so beautiful.

This portrait is titled Frida on White Bench. It was taken by Nickolas Muray in 1939.

Fall Leaves

John and I took a little stroll in Berkley last weekend and saw the most beautiful fall leaves. I couldn't resist snapping a few pictures. 

Pretty soon all of the beautiful golds and oranges will turn to brown and fall away leaving the trees all bare and twiggy. 

Winter is on its way to California...
