Visual Poetry

Just recently I have fallen in love with the poet Pablo Neruda. He was a Chilean poet who's real name was Neftali Ricardo Reyes Basoalto. He wrote under the pen name Pablo Neruda. His poetry was all originally written in spanish. It is amazingly beautiful, even when translated. I can't imagine what life would be like if every emotion I experienced was as intense as he describes his own feelings.

I am creating an entire collection of images called the "Visual Poetry Series" based on poetry that inspires me. The prints will be available with (or without if you prefer) lines from my favorite poems. This is the first of many to come.

The line that goes along with this print is from Pablo Neruda's Sonnet XVII.

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

Than this: where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.

Johnny Appleseed Sets!

Apple Blossoms are so soft and dreamy. They remind me of walking barefoot in the grass on a warm Spring day and the sound of busy little bees buzzing around the blossoms. You can bring their sweetness into your home with my new Johnny Appleseed Sets!

These images are now available in my Etsy shop as a Big Set and a Mini Set.

Just a note-books: Seaside Series

I wasn't planning to make these available in my shop for a little while, but seeing as the other set sold out in about an hour, I figured I might as well go ahead!
The Seaside Series is now available!

These little notebooks are the perfect size to toss in your purse or even carry in your pocket.

They have a matte card stock cover featuring an image that wraps around and are saddle stitched. Each one contains 20 sheets of bright white unlined paper perfect for sketches and doodles, notes, grocery lists, that special someone's phone number or just about anything else that you might want to jot down. The best part is each one is handmade by me!

They come in bundles of three that will arrive all tied up with a ribbon. These Just a Note - books would also make the perfect stocking stuffers!

365 versions of myself

Sometimes I think that there might actually be this many different parts of me. Somehow they all fit together to form this one person. So I am going to attempt to capture myself in as many different ways as possible over the next year of my life. Yes, I have finally made up my mind to tackle the 365 project.

I have been thinking about taking this on for a while now and I just couldn't find the motivation to get started. Just thinking about the task at hand already has me feeling overwhelmed. But I am going to do it.

I thought I'd start out with a bang and not only take one photo, but a series of photos. I figured what better place to start, but at the beginning...

Day 1: My Insomnia

I, for whatever reason, have not slept a full night in quite a while. My mind wanders. I sit on the porch and watch the stars. I work. I go for a run. I watch movies. I read. I listen to music. I pace. I am completely restless. I'm never in bed earlier than 3 or 4 in the morning and often I don't start to drift off to sleep until the first sign of dawn. By then, of course, its light out and I can't sleep because its so bright. There are nights when I don't sleep at all.

I'll go on like this for days until I eventually crash, usually about 2 or 3 in the afternoon, one day when my body just can't take the exhaustion any more. Then I sleep a couple of hours and start the routine all over again. I broke down and bought a body pillow yesterday. Lets see if that helps.
